چکیده

Potential flows of incompressible fluids admit a pressure (Bernoulli) equation when the divergence of the stress is a gradient as in inviscid fluids, viscous fluids, linear viscoelastic fluids and second-order fluids. We show that the equation balancing drag and acceleration is the same for all these fluids independent of the viscosity or any viscoelastic parameter and that the drag is zero in steady flow. The unsteady drag on bubbles in a viscous (and possibly in a viscoelastic) fluid may be approximated by evaluating the dissipation integral of the approximating potential flow because the neglected dissipation in the vorticity layer at the traction-free boundary of the bubble gets smaller as the Reynolds number is increased. Using the potential flow approximation, the drag D on a spherical gas bubble of radius a rising with velocity U(t) in a linear viscoelastic liquid of density ρ and shear modules G(s) is given by

Forced Convection Heat Transfer of Giesekus Viscoelastic Fluid in Concentric Annulus with both Cylinders Rotation

A theoretical solution is presented for the forced convection heat transfer of a viscoelastic fluid obeying the Giesekus constitutive equation in a concentric annulus under steady state, laminar, and purely tangential flow. A relative rotational motion exists between the inner and the outer cylinders, which induces the flow. A constant temperature was set in both cylinders, in this study. The f...

Nonlinear Nonlocal Vibration of an Embedded Viscoelastic Y-SWCNT Conveying Viscous Fluid Under Magnetic Field Using Homotopy Analysis Method

In the present work, effect of von Karman geometric nonlinearity on the vibration characteristics of a Y-shaped single walled carbon nanotube (Y-SWCNT) conveying viscose fluid is investigated based on Euler Bernoulli beam (EBB) model. The Y-SWCNT is also subjected to a longitudinal magnetic field which produces Lorentz force in transverse direction. In order to consider the small scale effects,...

Simulation of Free Surface Viscoelastic Fluid Flow Using the viscoelasticInterFoam Solver

The understanding of polymeric fluids flows is of essential importance for several industry sectors, including plastic and food processing industries. The rheological response of viscoelastic fluids is quite complex, including combination of viscous and elastic effects and highly non-linear viscous and elastic phenomena. In a previous work we presented a solver for internal viscoelastic fluid f...

Pressure corrections for viscoelastic potential flow analysis of capillary instability

Linear stability analysis of the capillary instability of a viscoelastic liquid thread was carried out by Funada and Joseph (2003), who assumed irrotational flow but retained the effect of viscoelasticity (viscoelastic potential flow, VPF). They compared their results with the unapproximated normal mode solution of the linearized fully viscoelastic flow (FVF). The comparison showed that the gro...
